Poem: Division By Zero

I am the forbidden fruit in the garden of math
perfectly shaped without start or end
simple, elegant, curious
                                                                    infinitely tempting

But no one dares to eat me as I don't really exist
in fact I'm actually not on the graph
irreversible, inconsistent, untraceable
                                                                    eternally troubling

I am "division by zero" and life is not easy for me
even the smartest of computers think I'm crazy
undefined,  ERROR,  out of bounds
                                                                    forever elusive

Continue your discussions of philosophy and math
but please oh please don't lose sleep over me
one day you may understand
                                                                    I await patiently

  1. What a beautiful poem, Carly!

I love the offset phrases -- "infinitely tempting", "eternally troubling", "forever elusive", "I await patiently" -- and the image of perfectly-formed forbidden fruit. I would like to see you enter this one in , perhaps with some drawn or photographed images to illustrate...
